A preliminary analysis of heat integration structure of the FLEDGED process has been presented during the 13th Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems (SDEWES), held in Palermo on September 30th - October 4th, 2018, with the title "Preliminary Simulation Study and Heat Integration of a Highly Intensified and Flexible Process for Bio-DME and Electricity Production". Cristina Elsido (POLIMI) presented the preliminary FLEDGED process model and optimization strategy for heat integration. Download the presentation here.   This work, developed by POLIMI, presents the preliminary process modelling study and heat integration optimization for a novel highly intensified and
FLEDGED project participated to the 3rd clustering meeting on H2020 projects in the area of CCS/CCU/Alternative Fuels and Flexible Power Plants on 21st September in INEA (Brussels). It was a great occasion to set up cooperation and joint activities between projects with similar concepts and goals. Giulio Guandalini presented ⁦the FLEDGED project concept of producing renewable DME from biomass waste to the representatives of the H2020 projects.
FLEDGED project has been presented by Jaap Vente (ECN part of TNO) at the 8th International DME Conference (DME-8) held in Hyatt Regency Sacramento, Sacramento, California on 10 - 12th September 2018. The full presentation on the thermodynamics of CO/CO2 conversion to liquid fuels and different options for Sorption Enhnaced DME Synthesis can be dowloaded here.  This international meeting showcases global developments driving the introduction of DME as an ultra-low emission, low-carbon fuel around the world for transportation, power generation and other applications. FLEDGED project studies an innovative solution to increase process efficiency and intensification, pushing for the exploitation of this alterantive biofuel.
Isabel Martinez (CSIC) presented FLEDGED project at 12th The European Conference on Fuel and Energy Research and its Applications – ECCRIA 12 held in September 5-7, 2018 in Cardiff (UK). Main topic is the experimental investigation on sorption enhanced gasification (SEG) of biomass in a fluidized bed reactor for producing a tailored syngas performed in the facilities of CSIC. Download the presentation here. This study aims at analysing the effect of different operating parameters (e.g. steam-to-carbon (S/C) ratio, CO2 sorption capacity and sorbent-to-biomass ratio) in the syngas composition and char conversion obtained in a 20-30 kWth bubbling fluidized bed gasifier, using
Simone Guffanti (POLIMI) presented at the XX National Conference on Catalysis a poster on the effects of intraparticle diffusion phenomena on Dimethyl Ether direct Synthesis. The conference took place on 2-5th September 2018 in Milan.
FLEDGED project has been presented by Jaap Vente (ECN part of TNO) at the 16th International Conference on Carbon Dioxide Utilization held in Rio de Janeiro on 27 - 30th August 2018. The full presentation on the thermodynamics of CO/CO2 conversion to liquid fuels and different options for Sorption Enhnaced DME Synthesis can be dowloaded here. The main focus of the conference is "Sustainability through CO2 Utilization" and will encompasses six topics: Thermal and Catalytic Conversion of CO2 into Fuels and Chemicals; CO2 Conversion by Electrochemical, Photochemical, Plasma-Induced and other non-Conventional Energy Sources; CO2 Conversion by Biotechnological Routes; CO2 Capture
Productive week at IFK gasification facility, where Selina Hafner (University Of Stuttgart) hosted Isabel Martínez (CSIC) and Juha Palonen (Sumitomo SHI FW) to play with her 200 kW gasifier. A lot of biomass ashed... What a fun! FLEDGED project includes the validation of flexible operation of sorption-enhanced gasification in an industrialy relevant environment. Moreover, the experiments of syngas production from biomass give useful results that will help in calibration and validation of gasification models. Learn more about the sorption enhanced gasification process here.
ECN and Politecnico di Milano presented activities related with FLEDGED project at 25th International Conference on Chemical Reaction Engineering - ISCRE 25 (May 20-23, 2018, Firenze, Italy). Main topics are preliminary results of experimental campaign on regeneration strategies for the sorbent used in sorption enhanced DME synthesis step and reactors modelling activities for thermodynamic and kinetic analysis of performances and heat management. Presentations available in the download section. Jasper van Kampen from ECN presented a work on the feasibility of the sorption-enhanced DME synthesis (SEDMES) process related with efficient regeneration of the system: the pressure swing approach is combined with temperature swing
FLEDGED project participated to the 2nd clustering meeting on H2020 projects in the area of Biofuels and Alternative Fuels on 7 June 2018 in INEA (Brussels). It was a great occasion to set up cooperation and joint activities between projects with similar concepts and goals. Have a look to the H2020 projects in the field of biofuels and biomass here.
