Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI)

Politecnico di Milano is a public technical university organised in 12 departments and a network of 6 Schools of Engineering, Architecture and Industrial Design. The number of students enrolled in all campuses is approximately 40 000, which makes the Politecnico di Milano the largest Engineering School in Italy. On the last QS ranking, Politecnico di Milano ranked 28th in the world, 9th in Europe and 1st in Italy among the Engineering and Technology universities.

The support for the FLEDGED project will be granted by the Group of Energy Conversion Systems (GECOS) and by the Laboratory of Catalysis and Catalytic Processes (LCCP) of the Department of Energy. The GECOS group currently includes three full professors, four associate professors, ten assistant professors and about 20 among post-doc and PhD fellows. The main subjects investigated by the GECOS group are related to advanced energy conversion systems for power generation and industrial processes. LCCP group currently includes five full professors, three associate professors, three assistant professors and about 15 among post-doc and PhD fellows. LCCP group has developed a broad and worldwide recognized research experience in the field of Catalysis and Catalytic Processes. Most of its present research work is focused on topics related to energy and environment applications, including syngas production and conversion, CO2 activation, emission abatement.

POLIMI will coordinate FLEDGED project and will lead Management and Dissemination, exploitation and communication activities.

POLIMI will be highly involved in modelling and process integration, where will be responsible for the 2D modelling of the SE-DME reactor and for the process integration, simulation and optimization of the complete FLEDGED process. POLIMI will also contribute to define experimental matrix for process validation and to support the economic analysis for the scale-up study of SE-DME reactor.
